Capacity
Building
First
5's goals is to build efforts toward a common community awareness
of the importance of early childhood development along with
the increased availability of tools necessary to promote this.
The hope is that, at minimum, all parents of young children
are aware of the importance of optimal early childhood development
and aware of resources, services and supports that are available
to them and their children. Efforts to achieve this include
mass distribution of the following:
Resource
Guides
The
Resource Guide provides a quick reference and user friendly
handbook on available services for parents and families. Guides
are available in English and Spanish. First 5 Madera County
has partnered with agencies like the MCCAA Headstart to customize
the guide. To explore partnering or request copies for distribution
to parents or families that you know, just call us!
Kits for New Parents
Kits
for New Parents represents a comprehensive resource for new
and expecting parents that translates emerging science about
the importance of the early years into practical information
parents can incorporate into their daily lives. Good health,
loving relationships and frequent learning opportunities are
some of the topics covered. Kits are available in English and
Spanish. Currently Kits are primarily distributed to the parent(s)
of every baby born in Madera County through a First 5 Madera
County funded project at Madera Community Hospital. To request
copies for distribution, just call us!
Community
Presentations, Fairs and Events
First
5 Madera welcomes opportunities to offer presentations to clubs, organizations, agency staff an/or parents. We also participate
in fairs and events targeting families. The reason is simply
to increase common awarenesss of the importance of early childhood
developement and promote funding opportunities. To request a
presentation or First 5 representation or First 5 representation
at your upcoming fair or event, just call us!
At the core of Proposition 10 is the intent to increase community
awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, with the ultimate
goal of reducing the purchase and consumption of tobacco products.
First 5 Madera County aims to build the capacity of funded programs
by offering prepackaged materials, curriculum and visuals via
a lending library for incorporation into existing programs.
With age appropriate materials for young children, adults and
the family unit, First 5 Madera County also offers workshops
and trainings to parent groups, service clubs, providers, etc.
To request tobacco education and outreach materials for distribution
to parents that you know or for a tobacco awareness presentation,
just call us!
Healthcare
For All – Tier 1: Benefits Outreach and Enrollment
First
5 Madera County is eager to improve access to preventative healthcare
for young children by addressing healthcare barriers due to
the absence of health insurance. With limited resources, a comprehensive
Healthcare For All program exceeds the financial capacity of
the Commission. However, based on recent data, we do know that
roughly 75% of the uninsured in Madera County are eligible for
Healthy Families or MediCal. As such, through the First 5 FRC,
the Commission intends to build capacity for benefits outreach
and enrollment in Madera County. This shall include Benefits
Enrollment Fairs, onsite family advocates certified for Healthy
Families enrollment to assist families with application completion
and supports to local agencies. To request benefits outreach
and enrollment materials for distribution to parents that you
know or to have our family advocates at your upcoming fair or
event, just call us!
Professional
Training Institute
Key
to true collaboration and systems integration is the development
and growth of professionals through cross training. At the request
of local First 5 funded programs, First 5 Madera County will
develop a curriculum of cross training opportunities throughout
the 2005-2006 program year. Topics will include infant mental
health, school readiness, the ages and stages of development,
etc. To find out more about the planned curriculum or to participate,
just call us!
